Navy 85 - 91 (first gulf war vet). I really do not talk too much about the Navy I excelled at it but just not something I really want to dwell on.
So after my discharge from the Navy I bounced around for a time. I worked for Steve Judd at Royal Liquors for a few years.
When Gateway opened I went and got a job working the phones for them.
Yep I was that tech support guy you hated.
But I found my niche in life (Computers and Networking) I also picked up Chess around this time and have played in many a tournament game over the years. I still play and I also teach some of the time. After about three years I decided that I need a change and went to work for Birch Telecom.
I move to St. Louis with the job, but found St. Louis was one form of purgatory that I did not need. That city grated on me in ways I still find hard to believe. But we all have are demons.
Then I moved to San Francisco with about a $100.00 cash in my back pocket. Talk about nuts. I had my car and Nick Barrett to offer a softer landing. I landed a job in just a couple of days! I worked at Urban Media (yet one more telecom company) best move I ever made for a change. The company folded a year later but I learned so much and work for a person called Paul Mockapetris. It was defiantly a good thing for me.
I then landed a job at Walker Interactive just as the dot.com crash happen and lasted about four years.
I moved back to Kansas City some time late 2004 and got married to the best person in my life Andrea Bauer.
Andrea bought a house, before I got in town and told me it would need some work… Ha Ha
It took about four years but its now nearly completely rebuilt (note I do not use the word remodeled).
Bicycled most of my life, Long distance cycling. Give me a bicycle and the open road and I am happy.
I am now on the road to recovery from my bicycle wreck. Had a disk removed, but the recovery is going along well. But I will ride again even if Kansas City Mo is rated as one of the worst cities in the world to ride in.
